Perk up your summer barbecue bashes with these simple decor additions, and let the kids help create them.
Brighten up. To add sparkle to the scene, use gold spray paint to transform basic glass vases from your local flea market. Or rework an old tablecloth by using a hot-glue gun to add a colorful lace border.
Do up some DIY rings. Turn patterned fabric or a recycled print T-shirt into custom napkin rings (pictured). Simply cut the fabric into 27- by 2-inch strips and evenly apply fabric stiffener to the pieces. When the fabric is halfway stiffened, tie each strip into a bow around a paper towel roll and let dry.
Go herbal. To add some natural charm to your setup, plant herbs in small pots and use them as table centerpieces. This will also give you an amazing fragrance to soak up while you chow down.
