Two Factor Authentication FAQs

Two Factor Authentication FAQs

Beginning May 2022, Blue Cross will implement two factor authentication when you log in to your myBlueCross account.

  1. What is two factor authentication (2FA)?
    • 2FA provides an added level of security to online accounts by requiring an extra credential, in addition to a username and password.
    • You will be required to provide your username, password, and a security code when logging in from a new device.
  2. Why is Blue Cross introducing 2FA?
    • Blue Cross is committed to protecting your data and information, and 2FA is an added level of security that will help protect your account.
  3. How will this change my login experience?
    • When logging in from a new device, you must enter your username, password, and a security code sent to the mobile number or email address associated with your account.
    • If you are logging in from a recognized device, you will not have to enter a security code.
  4. What steps will I follow to complete the 2FA login process?
    • Enter your username and password. You will then see a page that reads: “Please Verify Your Identity.”
    • Choose to receive a security code via mobile phone or email address. There may be only one option, depending on whether or not Blue Cross has your mobile number and email address on file.
    • Enter the security code when prompted. You have 10 minutes to enter the security code before it expires. If the code expires, you can request a new code.
    • If you do not receive a code after requesting it, you can request the code to be resent.
    • If you enter the code incorrectly three times, the code will expire and you will be prompted to request a new code.
    • Once you enter the correct code, you will see a page that says “You’re Verified!” You will need to either click a button to update your settings or click a link that says “I’ll do this later. Take me to myBlueCross.”
    • You will be able to select “Remember this device” in order to bypass 2FA in the future.
    • You will be able to ‘turn on’ 2FA for every login, even when you log in on a recognized device. You can access this option by visiting your profile settings at myBlueCross.
    • You will be able to retrieve your username and password, if you have forgotten.
  5. What happens if I do not have access to the email account associated with my myBlueCross account and am unable to retrieve my username?
    • Contact customer service by calling the number on the back of your ID card.
  6. Who should I contact if I cannot access my myBlueCross account?
    • Contact customer service by calling the number on the back of your ID card.
